The EXPORAIL private archives center owns more than 208 000 photographs, postcards, passes, ticket stubs, maps
and other iconographic material that you can access through this search portal.
You can explore our archival data base in four different ways :
- by numerical order of images
- by alphabetical order subjects
- by fonds
- from our search portal that lets you find images whose description contains the words that you have specified

How to search into the image archives
Go to the search portal and
- enter a keyword (for example bridge, station or tramway) or a proper name like Angus or Victoria in the input field labelled Search for.
- next, select the search location amongst the list available under the in label (all fields, title, photographer, subjects, etc.)
- select the sort order for the result list
- and click on the [Search] button.
If you wish to see all the images for the same fonds, click on the link [List by fonds].
Similarly, you can get the alphabetical list of all subjects by clicking on the link [List by subject].
You can get the complete list of all images by clicking on the link [Numerical list of all images].
Finally, you can see the list of images acquired or processed recently by clicking on the link [New images].
Furthermore, you can choose the selection criteria for identifying new material by clicking on the following link Choose novelty criteria that you can also find in the vertical menu on the left hand side of this page.

How to navigate between the records of the search result
When you click on one of the unit numbers of the result list, you get a description of its record. A navigation bar will also appear above the description.
This bar can then be used to navigate between the records of the result list without going back to the list itself. Buttons will let you go forward or backward in the list, go to the first record or go to the last record.
Another button labelled [Return to the list] will let you go back to the result list.
Each document is identified with the type of the result list and with two numbers giving the position of the document being displayed with respect to the number of documents in the list.

How to print the search result
You can print the search result by clicking on the [Print result list] button that appears above the result list. This list will then appear on a new tab of your browser, as a PDF document. Use the Print... function of your browser to start the print process.
